DCS-5300 Review
Reviewed by
Design: 6.0 / 10 Compact enough. let down by mounting bracket, not very secure and loosens over time with ease.
Image Quality: 7.0 / 10 Picture is ok, but needs a wider angle. Poor picture under low light conditions. Only digital zoom.
Easy of Use: 0.1 / 10 Unless you want to use the web interface for one camera at a time (per window/tab), or download 3rd party software, do not buy this camera.
Connectivity: 5.0 / 10 Sits on a switch at work, simple set-up to use IE UI. No drop-outs. Reasonably light on bandwidth. Ditch the D-Link software.
Other Features: 4.0 / 10 Auto Patrol will only cycle ONCE. So manual intervention always required. Some problems experienced with motion detection, mostly in low light environment (EG: security when warehouse closed)
Strengths Configuration VERY easy. Web UI works well (IE6 +) but uses ActiveX so you may have dramas under Firefox. FTP and SMTP function a bonus. regular snapshots to e-mail very handy.
Weaknesses Put simply, a well priced camera let down by poor software that does not function as stated, and an even worse "tech-support" department. Due to D-Link software problems, unable to utilise multi-camera setup and mapping functions. Now sourcing 3rd party software.
Summary Spend your money with a company that values the end user. Spent too much time D/Ling patches and upgrades to get the shipped software v1.40 (!!!) to work. No result. Tech support was absoloutly NO help, and also wanted to charge me $40 (AU). No thank you.
